character
NAME: Murphy Ann Thompson
AGE AND BIRTHDAY: 22 years-old. April 1, 1987.
LOCATION: Southwest. San Francisco
HOMETOWN: Atlanta, Georgia
OCCUPATION: Personal Assistant. Her boss is extremely laid back and accepts her accident prone nature as a lovable quirk.
MARTIAL STATUS & SEXUALITY: Single and Straight. She likes boys, though in the past trying to date has been as disastrous as most everything else she attempts.
CLASS:

HISTORY:
From the moment of her birth, it has been obvious that Murphy was not to lead a remotely graceful life. Her birth, itself, was a whirlwind of disasters. A virtual three ring circus that started with her mother's water breaking in the middle of a fancy dinner on April Fools Day, continued with the woman insisting her little girl was going to come out any minute now while the doctors assured her she had plenty of time and culminated with them missing the window to administer the epidural. It seemed that anything that could go wrong in her delivery did and Murphy had been sticking to that pattern ever since.

Murphy's mother loved the ballet and for a very brief moment in time, she tried to pass that passion onto her daughter. She made it through a week of lessons, though, before the dance instructor was threatening to quit. A few forays into gymnastics and piano lessons followed before her parents finally gave up on making her do anything that required any amount of coordination. You would think they would have caught on a little quicker, but maybe they were just in denial, hoping she'd grow out of her gangly, awkward phase.

She never did, though. Visits to the emergency room were commonplace as Murphy grew up. There were sprains and burns and broken bones a plenty. If there was trouble to be gotten into, Murphy managed it somehow. She could set just about anything on fire, she could trip over absolutely nothing, there just didn't seem to be a limit to the kind of catastrophes that could ensure when she was about.

This didn't change as she entered adolescence. If anything, Murphy grew even more awkward and prone to disasters as she tried desperately to fit in with her peers. She tried to be a cheerleader, against her own better judgement and was almost relieved when a fall from the pyramid during one of the first practices of the season had her on a bench with a broken arm for the next several months. After all, she still got to wear the uniform, which made the boys look at her. Unfortunately, it was still hard to get past a first date when attempts to kiss her seemed to result in bodily harm to one or the both of them.

High school ended soon enough with Murphy being voted the "Most Likely to Win a Darwin Award" unanimously by her class. It wasn't that she was stupid - it was just common knowledge that she had a tendency to have the most bizarre lucky of anyone they knew. She tried to shake it off, though, as she continued on to college. It was a new start in a new city and she had high hopes that she could turn her life around.

Things didn't go quite as smoothly as she wanted, of course, but Murphy had by now learned what to avoid, at least, and she'd gotten a little better at keeping her accidents to a minimum. She always had a spare set of keys readily available, she ate takeout more often than not, she invested in some really good spill proof containers. There were a few incidents, of course, but she managed to minimize them as they next four years of her life came and went.

She's just been out of school for about eight months now, having graduated in the summer of 2009 and she was lucky enough to find a great job as a personal assistant for a laid back man who doesn't mind her little "quirks." Her finds her propensity for mishaps endearing and somehow she's managed to keep her job, despite the things that tend to happen to her.

PERSONALITY:
Murphy is a really sweet girl, bubbly and friendly. She has a smile on her face more often than not. A good sense of humor is kind of necessary with her history. Murphy has leaned to laugh at herself, but she also appreciates a good joke or prank. Not that she can pull one off - practical jokes have a tendency to go awry when she's the one behind them.

To put it mildly, Murphy is accident prone. Bad luck just seems to follow her and you'll soon see the irony of her name if you spend any amount of time with her. Just like they say in Murphy's Law - anything that can go wrong will when she's around. Murphy has lost count of how many times she's locked herself out of her car or apartment (really, public transportation is her friend - it's much less pricey than daily calls to Triple A) and she's probably been treated for more sprains and broken bones than most people three times her age.

Murphy has always been a big reader. It's one of the few activities she can enjoy without any kind of major catastrophe (though don't let her near food or drink while she has a book or computer in her hand) and as such, she has a large collection of books. Not only can she usually manage to read with little incident, but she finds it's nice to lose herself in a make-believe world where she can pretend to be somebody else for awhile.

Besides, her reading glasses are totally adorable.

APPEARANCE
Adorable. Murphy is often thought of cute more so than sexy and this may be partly because when she tries to be sexy, she fails miserably. She's a beautiful girl, to be sure, and she's alright until she actually moved. Murphy can definitely pull off sexy lingerie or a sexy little dress. The problem comes when she tries to move. High heels are her enemy and chances are she'll trip or rip something or manage some other disaster if she even dreams of trying a sexy little dance or strip tease.

As such, simple is best when it comes to fashion for this girl. She wears flats or shoes with a good, solid heel. She's learned to wear clothing that's free of ties or any other complications that could cause an issue later - or be caught in car doors (or on fire). You laugh, but she avoids these things because Very Bad Things have happened in the past.

PB: Amanda Seyfried

BLURB: The adorably accident prone girl you can't help but love.
